Autumn Baby Loss Memorial Events

Why attend a memorial event?

  • You can remember and celebrate your child.
  • You can be vulnerable and open with your emotions in a non-judgemental environment.
  • You can find community in the presence of others who have also lost a child.
  • You can create mementos and keepsakes.
  • You can find support and resources to help you along the journey of grief.

Here are a few updates of memorial events for my home city of Edmonton:

Walk to Remember, Edmonton

This event is not happening in 2014. It is unclear from the website if this is a one-year hiatus or if the event has concluded permanently.

Baby Steps Memorial Walk

Also, find Baby Steps on Facebook.

Date: Saturday, October 4, 2014

Time: 2pm

Click here to register (the registration form is a link to click and a form to fill out at the bottom of this page). Registration is now open and the organizers are collecting names of the children to honour on the day of the event.

Location: the memorial walk is moving out of Sherwood Park this year and into Edmonton. Please check the website for the confirmed location closer to the event.

In association with the Baby Steps Memorial Walk, there will be added support and resources for bereaved families in the form of a conference called Dream Interrupted. The conference will be held from October 2 to 4, 2014, location also TBD. I will be presenting Healing through Visual Art and Healing through the Written Word as workshops during the conference.

Info about Dream Interrupted Conference:

“We will be presenting our first Baby/Child Loss Conference in Sherwood Park, Alberta in the Fall of 2014. The “Dream Interrupted Conference” will begin on Thursday, October 2nd, 2014 with registration and the Keynote Speaker. On the following day,Friday, October 3rd, 2014, a number of presentations and workshops will be offered to participants beginning in the morning and wrapping up by 4:30 p.m. The conference will continue with a morning full of sessions on Saturday, October 4th, 2014. To end the conference, we will gather outside to participate in our 2nd Annual Memorial Walk.”

“This special conference is open to grieving parents who have experienced the death of their precious child, at any age, for any reason. We welcome you if you have lost your child due to baby loss, accident, illness, murder, suicide and natural causes. A safe place to meet others, share stories, gather information on coping and healing, in an environment that will encourage and support active learning. We will also be inviting professionals to attend and those who work with grieving families.”

Both the Baby Steps Memorial Walk and the Dream Interrupted Conference are only about a month away, so please register if you would like to attend. You can email the organisers for more information: heartsbabyloss@shaw.ca
